Future Workshops
TERENA and FIRST will jointly organise at least two training workshops per year in Europe after the end of the TRANSITS project (30 September 2005).
TRANSITS Workshops
During the lifiteime of the TRANSITS project (July 2002 - September 2005) seven training workshops have been organised.
7th TRANSITS Training Workshop
The seventh TRANSITS training workshop took place on 28-29 April 2005 in Carcavelos near Lisbon, Portugal.
Because this was the last oppertunity for CSIRT staff members to attend a training course with financial support
from the EU, the number of participants was raised to 30. Portugal was well represented with 12 trainees; other
participants came from 10 different European countries. Lecturers were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, UK),
Jan Meijer (SURFNET-CERT, Netherlands), Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany), and Don Stikvoort (S-CURE, Netherlands).
6th TRANSITS Training Workshop
The sixth TRANSITS training workshop took place on 17-18 February 2005 in Chantilly near Paris, France.
The event was oversubscribed and it was only possible to admit 22 trainees.
Thirteen countries countries were represented at the event. Feedback from representatives was very positive. The training material
was delivered by the same team of five lecturers that presented the 5th training workshop.
5th TRANSITS Training Workshop
The fifth TRANSITS training workshop took place on 11-12 November 2004 at the
Parkhotel in Průhonice near Prague, Czech Republic.
The event was very much oversubscribed, with more than 40 applications. It was possible to admit 23 trainees.
They came from academic institutions, commercial companies, government bodies and national research and education
networking organisations in 13 countries. Lecturers at this event were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, UK), Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany),
Claudio Natonson (Diageo, UK), David Parker (UNIRAS, UK) and Jacques Schuurman (SURFNET-CERT, Netherlands).
4th TRANSITS Training Workshop
The fourth TRANSITS Training Workshop took place on 25-26 May 2004 at the Mellingburger Schleuse hotel in Hamburg, Germany.
Lecturers at this event were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, UK), Stelios Maistros (GRNET-CERT, Greece),
Claudia Natanson (BT SBS, United Kingdom), Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany) and Jacques Schuurman (SURFNET-CERT, Netherlands).
The course was attended by 15 trainees from 10 countries.
3rd TRANSITS Training Workshop
The third TRANSITS Training Workshop took place on 30 and 31 October 2003 at Castello di San Gaudenzio near Milan, Italy.
The presenters pf the course were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, UK), Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany), David Parker (UNIRAS, UK),
Jacques Schuurman (SURFNET-CERT, Netherlands) and Don Stikvoort (Stelvio, Netherlands). The course was attended by 22 trainees from 14
different countries.
2nd TRANSITS Training Workshop
The second TRANSITS Training Workshop took place on 27 and 28 May 2003 at the offices of NASK in Warsaw, Poland.
The presenters of the two-day course were Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, United Kingdom), Jan Meijer (CERT-NL, Netherlands),
Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany), Gareth Price (BT secure Business Systems, United Kingdom) and Jacques Schuurman (CERT-NL, Netherlands).
The course was attended by 20 trainees from 13 different countries in Europe. Many of the participants came from EU Accession States.
The workshop was evaluated very positively by the participants.
1st TRANSITS Training Workshop
The first TRANSITS Training Workshop took place on 31 October and 1 November 2002 at Oud-Poelgeest castle in Oegstgeest, the Netherlands.

Andrew Cormack (UKERNA, United Kingdom), Klaus Möller (DFN-CERT, Germany), Gareth Price (BT Secure Business Systems, United Kingdom),
Jacques Schuurman (CERT-NL, Netherlands) and Don Stikvoort (Stelvio Netherlands) presented this two-day training course for staff (or future staff) of Computer Security Incident Response Teams.
The course was attended by 21 trainees from 14 different countries in Europe.
The workshop was judged a great success by both trainees and lecturers with everyone contributing to a very
useful exchange of information.
